Life at Casa California

Casa California is exactly the type of building you would expect to find on this classic California palm tree-lined street. Built almost a century ago, this building retains so much of the charm of the 1920s with surprisingly large floorplans and can’t-miss features including original hardwood floors, charming built-ins, full kitchens, and closet space, closet space, closet space!

If you’re looking for that classic, New York-style exposed brick apartment walls, Casa California has those too!

Adjacent to the historic Chapman Market, which in 2011 was voted “Best Combination of Old and New L.A.” by LA Weekly, Casa California welcomes the 21st century with open arms while maintaining the classic 1920s vibes.

Amenities you can enjoy at Casa California:

  • A 10-minute walk to Wilshire/Western Metro Station
  • Across the street from the historic Chapman Market
  • Exposed bricks
  • Original hardwood floors
  • Vintage tiles & lighting

If you’re thinking about moving to the neighborhood, we want to help you get acquainted. Here’s a little guide to some of our favorite businesses local to Casa California. We know you’ll be a regular in no time.

Here’s Looking at You

Location: 3901 West 6th Street

Here’s Looking at You is an eclectic Los Angeles restaurant, located in Koreatown, heralded for its creativity and genre-defying cuisine. Owners Lien Ta and Chef Jonathan Whitener opened their first restaurant together in 2016.

Named a “Restaurant of the Year” by Food & Wine Magazine and one of Eater National’s “38 Most Essential Restaurants,” HLAY was also the subject of author Patric Kuh’s “Becoming a Restaurateur.”

After four magical years as a small independent restaurant, COVID-19 would force what some thought was its forever closure. But 17 months later, fate would have it that the community would come together to help resurrect this very special restaurant because it was so missed. You don’t want to miss out on it now that it’s back!

Oh My Crab!

Location: 300 West 6th Street, Suite 100

At Oh My Crab if you get messy, you are doing it right!. They serve fresh, flavor-rich seafood N’awlins-style, which means it’s usually in a bag, on the table.

That’s right, their restaurant is a special place where eating with your hands is encouraged, and getting sauce everywhere is required. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and unleash your inner child!

Popular menu items include the Dungeness Crab Boiler, a Calamari Po’Boy, and Funnel Cake Fries. They also deliver if you want to make a mess in the comfort of your own home.

RIKAS

Location: 3553 West 3rd Street2,

Living in Los Angeles is the best for so many reasons but one of our favorites is the range of cuisines that we have access to. Rikas serves Peruvian cuisine in the heart of Koreatown. Founder and Head Chef, Jose Baca, began his journey in the kitchen 15+ years ago and now finally has opened a Peruvian restaurant to call his own. It all started in a small kitchen in Peru with Jose’s great grandmother, Ricardina.

The food served by their family has changed throughout the years but retained its amazing flavors from Ricardina. As you can tell, the name has a meaning to the family. Rikas Peruvian Cuisine comes from the seed that their great grandmother planted.

The menu offers a variety of different dishes and accommodates any occasion or palate. From a simple 15-minute lunch break to a romantic outing with your significant other. They have it all.

At Rikas you will enjoy all of Peru’s classic and finest food such as: ceviches, lomo saltados, jaleas, chaufas, seafood, soups, and a variety of other Peruvian cuisine inspired by Asian cuisine.

Tokki

Location: 3465 W 6th St Suite 90-100

The owners of Tokki brought their love for modern Korean food and drinking culture to Koreatown, Los Angeles, the epicenter of Korean food in America.  Crafted through the lens of first-generation Asian Americans living in the U.S, they’ve worked hard to bring an idea to life.

Timeout Magazine says Tokki, “…manages to expertly meld familiar Korean flavors with fine-dining flourishes and ingredients, from a tteokbokki in a rosé gochujang sauce to a kimchi fried rice with truffle-infused bulgogi and supplemental A5 Wagyu. Hungry already? Be sure to make a reservation—you’ll very likely need one.”

Shrine Karaoke

Location: 2999 West 6th Street

There’s no party quite like a karaoke party. With a European-Egyptian motif and 15 night-club-style rooms, Shrine is a high-end karaoke bar without the high-end price.

Their free-flowing drinks and tasty food selection will embolden each guest to take to the stage and hit a couple of high notes. At Shrine, they make sure you get a party you won’t forget and leave you wanting for more.

Their high-tech karaoke machines and LCD screens combine to deliver a concert-worthy auditory experience that will pump up the mood. They’re also open until 4 AM, every day so get ready to party.

Takeout Sushi & Roll

Location: 3280 West 6th Street

Craving sushi? For a meal to remember, check out Takeout Sushi & Roll. With over 10 years of experience cooking in the finest restaurants, their chef is excited to present their vision to you and all our guests.

Their caring and committed staff make sure you have a fantastic experience every time. You can order online for dine-in or take-out!

The Normandie Club

Location: 3612 West 6th Street

Rooted in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown, The Normandie Club is housed inside the landmark Hotel Normandie circa 1926.

Established in 2015, The Normandie Club is a community cocktail bar featuring a unique drink program that showcases both classic and modern cocktails complemented by a signature service philosophy.

The menu features their take on the classics, but there are plenty of incredible drinks that they are excited about. Residents of Koreatown know you can let them know what you’re in the mood for, and their bartenders find the right drink for you.

Chapman Park Market

Location: 3465 West 6th Street

Opened in 1929, the drive-in Chapman Park Market was one of the first markets in the western U.S. designed for the automobile.

The market presented a fortress-like facade, with thick concrete walls worked to resemble sandstone and ornate, Churrigueresque towers on the corners.

A large rooftop sign invited motorists off Wilshire. Patrons drove in through a Spanish Revival archway to find an inner courtyard surrounded by various grocers.

The market and its companion Chapman Park Studio building across Alexandria Avenue were envisioned, along with the since-demolished Chapman Park Hotel, as fashionable anchors of the neighborhood.

Chapman Plaza was restored by developer Wayne Ratkovich and architect Brenda Levin and is currently occupied mostly by chic Korean shops and restaurants. It’s right across the street from Casa California so you won’t be able to miss it.
