The Los Angeles Guide to Pride

February 25, 2022

Happy Pride Month, Los Angeles 🌈

LA has a long and proud history in the LGBTQIA+ community. We were home to one of the very first Pride demonstrations at the Black Cat Bar back in 1967 and hosted the first permitted Pride Parade three years later in 1970 when almost 2,000 people gathered on McCadden Place.

Later, organizers decided to add a festival to the parade and over the years it has evolved into a star-studded event where everyone can proudly be who they are.

The LA Pride Festival & Parade may be the main event but there are so many Pride-related happenings all over Los Angeles during the month of June.

We’ve found some you will definitely want to check out:

Rooftop Cinema Club: Pride Collection

Rooftop Cinema Club transforms nights at the movies into cinematic events like no other. You bring your friends and loved ones, and we’ll bring you city skylines, sunsets, starlit evenings, awesome drinks, delicious food, and great movies on the big screen.

For Pride Month, they are showing different LGBTQIA+ films all throughout June. You can find their calendar here. The Pride Collection movies are marked with a rainbow!

Made With Pride – Santa Monica Place

Santa Monica Place is a modern shopping & dining destination located in the heart of Santa Monica. This month they are hosting a pop-up showcase of 15 LGBTQIA+ business owners every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in June.

Each of the businesses is super local, with goods & services that were born, made, and curated here in Southern California.

Made with PRIDE will host art installations by Amanda Wallace, along with workshops and different happenings throughout the month. To add even more fun into the mix, a DJ will be spinning every weekend as well.

Drag Yourself to the Valley

On June 9th, the Garland Ballroom proudly presents a FABULOUS evening of FIERCE queens with a classic drag show hosted by West Hollywood’s Billy Francesca featuring Willam Belli, Adore Delano, and Willow Pill!

The cast includes Kyra Jeté, Lolita Colby, Lauren Banall, and Lady Laritza La Bouche with DJ Patrick Kuzara.

The doors will open at 7:00 PM with cocktails flowing as soon as you arrive! There are two ticketing options available, but we hear there isn’t not a bad seat in the house.  The VIP tickets include seating closer to the stage and a photo opportunity at a Meet and Greet with the Queens following the show.

Dyke Day LA

Dyke Day LA is a Non-Profit volunteer organization whose vision is to create community gatherings that center inclusivity.

Dyke Day LA is an annual day in the park for dykes, queers, and allies that celebrates queers of all genders and ages. This year it is taking place on June 11th.

This day in the park takes place on the Saturday of LA Gay Pride weekend and creates a space for folks of all backgrounds to connect with each other and with community organizations in celebration of our eclectic queer family. There will be DJs, arts and crafts for kids of all ages, and tables for local organizations to set up information for the community.

Judy’s Penthaus- Pride Pool Party

This event features a full rooftop of Disco, House, Techno, and Tribal.

The event page says to grab Toto, take your red slippers off, and come soak in the pool with the best views of the city!

You can shop their queer vendors in the Wicked Lounge and give your best Oscar performance for the Revry.tv!

The party is just minutes away from the Pride Parade! You are invited to take the Yellow Brick Road with them at the Godfrey Hotel on June 12th.

This is truly just the tip of the iceberg! There is so much going on this month for Pride! Make sure to tag Urban LA Living in your favorite Pride selfies. We’d love to see them.
