5 of The Best Beaches in Los Angeles

Now that spring has sprung and summer is right around the corner, we’re starting to think about long lazy days in the sand and surf. Sure, you can visit the beach any time of year in LA, but there’s something about summer that screams “Beach Day!”.
Whether you’re a surfer, sandcastle builder, sunbather, or a bit of all three, Los Angeles is ripe with amazing beaches. LA truly has the best beach selection and they’re pretty accessible from anywhere in the county. In fact, you can get from the tarmac at LAX to sand between your toes in just about ten minutes.
We did the research and found out what LA’s top-rated beaches are and also where to find hidden gems that you can escape to, to avoid the hustle and bustle of tourists and crowds.
Here’s what we found:
Santa Monica
Just west of downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica Beach has something for every beach-goer: a 3.5 mile expansive, wide, soft, & sandy beach, bike trails, and plenty of activities and businesses nearby.
The Santa Monica Pier is a staple attraction that offers breathtaking ocean views and an amusement park. The entertainment, as well as the barrier-free playground, makes this beach a great one for children as well as adults.

Malibu
Now the song is going to be stuck in our heads all day too. Malibu is home to 21 miles of coastline, just north of Santa Monica. It has many cove-style beaches making it feel more secluded as they’re trickier to get to.
Fans of water sports should pay a visit to Topanga Beach. Its mile-wide pebbly beach is great for surfing and has been featured in plenty of movies and TV shows. While swimming isn’t ideal here, fishing, sunbathing, and scuba diving are fun activities that draw beach-goers to Topanga.

Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach is known as Surf City USA and is home to some of California’s best waves. While you’re visiting you can also visit the International Surfing Museum. The beach itself is flat and wide and stretches out 10 miles on either side of the city’s large pier.
Also worth visiting is Huntington’s famous Dog Beach. It’s one of the few off-leash dog parks in California and pups are free to roam around, take a dip, and play in the sand as they please. Even if you don’t have a dog of your own, it’s great for people, and of course, dog watching.

Redondo
Redondo is home to a cute little fisherman’s village as well as a newly built pier full of restaurants, shops, and entertainment. There are also watersport rentals for sea kayaks, surfing, and SUPs (stand-up paddleboards).
People love Redondo for its great surfing and beach volleyball. Its wide, clean beaches are also super accessible via public transportation.

Victoria Beach
Victoria Beach can be found in Laguna Beach; it may just be one of the best kept secrets in Orange County. It’s crystal clear water, sandy coves, tidepools, and gorgeous views are not even the best part.
Victoria Beach is also home to a Pirate Tower. This eccentric 100-year-old attraction is worth the steep staircase. Pack light for a trip to Victoria Beach as it’s a little bit of a walk.
Also, keep an eye on the tides – otherwise, you might find yourself stuck at the pirate tower until the tide goes out.
If beaches aren’t your thing, make sure to let us know what your favorite summer activity is, whether it’s hiking, shopping, or eating ice cream, and we’ll be sure to put together a ‘Best Of’ list just for you!
