Spend Valentine’s Day In LA

March 9, 2023

Love is in the air in Los Angeles, and Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Last year, we shared the best way to celebrate Valentine’s Day from the comfort of your apartment but this year, there are a few more options, and you can even venture outside.

Did You Know?: Valentine’s Day has kind of a sad origin story. Saint Valentine was a Catholic priest from Rome in the 3rd Century. At the time, many Romans were converting to Christianity, but the emperor was a pagan and created strict laws against Christians. He also outlawed Roman soldiers from getting married. Saint Valentine started marrying the soldiers in secret because he believed in the importance of love. He was eventually found out and jailed, but while imprisoned, continued to care for his fellow prisoners. Apparently, his last act before being executed on February 14th 270 AD, was to write a love message to the jailer’s daughter. He signed it, “From your Valentine.”

You can celebrate the day of love whether you’re paired up, single, or somewhere in between. There are tons of fun activities and date night ideas around the city but here are a few of our favorites.

For Couples

  1. Have a Romantic Meal Out

This is of course a classic, but Los Angeles has such great cuisine choices that it’d be a shame not to take advantage of it on Valentine’s Day. You can go casual or treat yourself to something fancy. There’s something for everyone:

A Fancy-Schmancy Choice:

Where: Soulmate Restaurant

When: February 14th only

Cost: $160 per person

What: Take your Soulmate to Soulmate this Valentine’s Day! Soulmate will be featuring a 6-course, shared plates menu. Enjoy Spanish Mediterranean cuisine by Chef Rudy Lopez. You’ll love the restaurant’s open layout, flavorful cocktails, and overall ambience.

A Keeping It Casual Choice:
Where: Brio Italian Grille
When: Anytime
Cost: Dishes are $30 and under

What: This Tuscan-inspired restaurant serves authentic, northern Italian cuisine, luxury wines & cocktails—Specialties include premium quality steaks, chops, seafood, made-to-order pasta and flatbreads prepared in a wood-burning oven.

2.  Go On a Scandalous Scavenger Hunt
Mix things up with a game & get competitive with other couples at the Getty Museum’s fun Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt.

Where: The Getty Museum
When: Saturday, February 11th – 2 PM or 5 PM
Cost: $24/ticket

What: This whirlwind tour of nudes uncovers a whole lot more than a few naked bodies. On teams, you’ll work together to answer tricky, humorous questions about a cupid who pulls a Mike Tyson move, a sultry dog whisperer, slapstick with a lemon, an ancient game of wife swap, Toulouse-Lautrec’s “moodel,” Mischief’s bear hide, and much more. You don’t need to know anything about art or the museum—or nudity—to play or to win.

For Singles & Friends

1.Cupid’s Undie Run

Grab a group of friends and have some fun for a really great cause.

Where: The Venice Whaler
When: Saturday, February 11th 12 PM
Cost: $45/ticket
What: Every February, thousands of undie runners in cities all across the U.S. come together, whether it be in-person or virtually, to support those affected by NF, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body and affects 1 in every 3,000 births. Cupid’s Undie Run kicks off with drinking and dancing, then we jog it out with a mile(ish) run and end it all with an epic dance party!

2.Talk It Out At The Moth
Do you have an unbelievable story about an ex or an embarrassing first date? The Moth could be the spot for you to share it.

Where: Los Globos
When: February 7th 7:30 PM
What: The theme is LOVE HURTS and what you’ll do is, prepare a five-minute tale about a love that made you go OUCH. The agony of deferred love! The misery of good love, gone bad! The anguish of one-way love! Bring stories of your heart, kicked to the curb by the people or places or things you love…or used to love. Love that “Hurts So Good” is also welcome. Names of people who want to participate will be put in a hat and randomly drawn throughout the night.

There were too many fun choices to pick from so please let us know what you’re doing for Valentine’s Day (even if it’s staying in to watch your favorite rom-com). Reach out on our Urban LA Living Facebook page at any time!
